Ingredients

Fruits and Spices

  • 4 medium apples, diced 1 cm
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon corn starch
  • 1.5 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • Pinch salt
  • 1 teaspoon apple pie spice
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cup milk, room temperature
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 0.5 cup butter, melted
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Nuts and Toppings

  • 0.5 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 0.5 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup boiling hot water
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, small pieces

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 11x8 inch (2 quart) baking dish.
  • Peel, core, dice apples, then toss with sugar, cinnamon, and cornstarch. Spread over the dish.
  • Mix dry ingredients; set aside. Whisk wet ingredients; combine with dry. Fold in walnuts.
  • Pour batter over apples, sprinkle with sugar and cornstarch, scatter butter pieces, then pour hot syrup and water gently over the top.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes until bubbling and top springs back. Cool slightly before serving with ice cream and drizzle.

Notes

Serve warm with ice cream for an indulgent treat.
