Ingredients

Marinade

  • 1 lb flank steak or ribeye, thinly sliced
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 green onion chopped
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar

Spicy Sauce

  • 2 tbsp gochujang Korean chili paste
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 clove garlic, minced

Main Components

  • 2 cups cooked white rice or jasmine rice
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 cup cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup kimchi (optional)
  • 2 eggs fried or soft-boiled

Garnish

  • to taste sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • to taste green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions 

  • Combine soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, green onion, and rice vinegar in a bowl. Marinate sliced steak for at least 30 minutes.
  • Whisk gochujang, honey, soy sauce, sesame oil, water, and garlic in a small bowl to make the spicy sauce. Set aside.
  • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat, cook marinated steak for 2-3 minutes per side until browned.
  • Divide rice into bowls, top with steak, shredded carrots, cucumber, kimchi, drizzle with spicy sauce, and add fried or soft-boiled eggs. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.

Notes

Marinate the steak for at least 30 minutes for best flavor, but 15 minutes can work in a pinch.
