Ingredients

Dry ingredients

  • 1 cup Flour
  • 1 3/4 cup Cocoa powder Dutch processed
  • 3/4 tsp Baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp Baking soda
  • 1/3 tsp Kosher salt
  • 3/4 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup Vegetable oil
  • 1 egg Egg
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup Buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup Hot coffee

Frosting ingredients

  • 3/4 cup Soft unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup Powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup Cocoa powder Dutch processed
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp Milk
  • 1/4 tsp Kosher salt

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Line an 8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Mix flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  • Add egg, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla; mix until just combined.
  • Stir in hot coffee until smooth. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  • Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 20-25 minutes. Cool before serving.

Notes

Ensure not to overmix the batter for a tender crumb.
