Ingredients

Flour and cocoa

  • 219 g all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)
  • 40 g Dutch process cocoa powder
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 0.25 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 112 g unsalted butter (melted)
  • 200 g granulated white sugar
  • 2 eggs eggs (at room temperature)
  • 120 ml whole milk (at room temperature)
  • 122 g sour cream (at room temperature)
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 200 g mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 100 g mini semi-sweet chocolate chips for sprinkling (for topping)

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a muffin tin with paper liners.
  • Mix dry ingredients: flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt.
  • In a separate bowl, combine melted butter, sugar, eggs, milk, sour cream, and vanilla.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to wet, mixing until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
  • Divide batter among muffin cups, sprinkle with mini chocolate chips, and bake for 20 minutes.

Notes

Do not overmix the batter to keep muffins tender.
