Meat

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Freshly ground black pepper
  • optional Garlic powder
  • optional Onion powder

Vegetables & Toppings

  • as needed Lettuce leaves (iceberg or butter lettuce recommended)
  • slices Cheese slices (American, sharp cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Swiss)
  • slices Sliced ripe tomatoes
  • as desired Crisp red onion or caramelized onions
  • slices Dill pickle slices
  • as needed Fresh leafy greens

Condiments & Sauces

  • to taste Ketchup
  • to taste Mustard
  • to taste Mayonnaise
  • to taste Relish
  • to taste Hot sauce
  • optional Sautéed mushrooms
  • optional Crispy fried onions
  • optional Pickled jalapeños
  • optional Fried egg
  • optional Barbecue sauce

Instructions 

  • Season ground beef with salt, pepper, and optional garlic or onion powder. Form into four patties with a shallow indentation.
  • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and sear patties for 3-4 minutes per side. Add cheese slices during the last few minutes if desired.
  • Rest cooked patties, prepare toppings, and wash lettuce leaves. Assemble each burger in a lettuce leaf with desired toppings and sauces.
  • Fold the lettuce over the filling and serve.
