A simple and flavorful Italian appetizer featuring toasted bread topped with fresh tomato and basil mixture.

Ingredients

Bread

  • 1 loaf rustic Italian bread or baguette (sliced into 1/2-inch slices)

Tomatoes

  • 3 medium-sized ripe tomatoes (diced)

Garlic

  • 2-3 cloves garlic (minced)

Basil

  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves (chopped)

Olive Oil

  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Balsamic Vinegar

  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

Salt

  • to taste salt

Black Pepper

  • to taste freshly ground black pepper

Cheese (Optional)

  • as desired mozzarella or Parmesan cheese (for topping)

Instructions 

  • Slice bread into 1/2-inch pieces and toast until golden.
  • Mix diced tomatoes, minced garlic, chopped basil, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar.
  • Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  • Top toasted bread slices with the tomato mixture.
  • Optional: add cheese on top. Serve immediately.

Notes

Use fresh, ripe tomatoes for the best flavor.
